Poem Play

Seedlings in Stone had a poem play challenge this week. One of the options was to take the first line, which she provided, and craft a poem. So I’m a little rusty, but here’s what I came up with.

If memories were sparrows
they would stay
perched
forever
among baby blue skies
and primary leaves
of green.
They would depart
for a time
but return
always
within reach.

Not
like today
when I look
for the sparrows
among the cold
bare branches
find only
empty nests
feathered
by steel gray skies
out of reach, too high.

But maybe the spring
will bring
the sparrows
and then
I’ll remember.

I really loved this, Jenn. I love reading poetry. And you had some wonderful turns of phrase. :)

    My fave:
    “empty nests
    feathered by steel gray skies.”

    Thanks for sharing it!

Good job on the poem. I couldn’t write one to save my life.
