Solutions for a Sleepy Teen

Does anyone have a solution for motivating a sleepy teenager to get up in the morning?  If so, I would be forever grateful.

Shortly after 7:00 this morning, I awoke to a loud roar from the girls’ den downstairs.  That means that Mae (18) had discovered Kiki (15) still asleep in bed; that means that Mae immediately began to worry about being late (as she’s the driver); that means that Mae began her day stressed, which she already is to the max, and the entire family got off to a rocky start.

It’s frustrating that we deal with this over and over again.  It’s another one of those joy stealers that wreaks havoc on our family. I could easily blame it on school, since they’ve both been up late trying to get homework done.  And why do schools have to amp things up right before Christmas?  School play rehearsals (daily), Christmas variety show, major projects due…these are all happening right now.

So now I just sound like I’m complaining, and I don’t have any clever tie-in or inspirational thought to help me in this area.  I’m just trying to keep the peace over here.  So your suggestions are appreciated, or - at the very least - a good joke or funny story so I can have a laugh this morning.

Sorry you had a rough morning. Does she have an alarm clock? This sounds terrible, but if she’s late, I’d just leave her behind. Let your older one leave when she always does…this eliminates morning stress for her anyway. Your sleepy bear may or may not get the point. Well, I was trying to make this a worthy comment, but as I reread it, it seems I’m really no help.

Good luck! I’m sure others will have better advice. A glass of cold water in the face may work.

    Jenny,
Thank you so much for the prayers.. I sure need them and I do feel GOD is working also in my situation.

I will be back to visit you.

I like FringeGirl’s idea of the cold water in the face. My oldest is NOT a morning person. I have to get up early so that I can wake her up early so that she can actually get going on time. Not to mention that she is so SLOW! It drives me crazy, but that’s just the way she is. Even alarm clocks don’t work for her. I have to coerce her out of bed.

I wish I had some advice for you. The only thing I can offer is deep empathy.
