On a recent Sunday morning, I came downstairs and headed for the coffee pot. Hubby had been up since the wee hours due to jetlag, so I was expecting there to be a some fresh brew already made. Instead, I see this carafe sitting on the counter; a carafe I had maybe used twice in 21 years of marriage. I unscrewed the lid and found that it was full of hot water.
My husband got this idea from his recent trip to China. Now, every morning, he heats up water on the stove and transfers it to the carafe. This helps because 1) it provides hot water, ready-to-go for a good part of the day; 2) it keeps us from turning on the gas burner multiple times throughout the morning and possibly forgetting that it’s on (this happens often); and 3) it encourages tea drinking.
It seems like such a simple idea, but honestly, I never would have thought of it. (And you guessed it: I’m not the Martha Stewart type!) It encourages me to switch to something healthier - like green tea - after I’ve had my usual daily dose of coffee. And on cold winter days it’s nice to know it’s there waiting, ready for that afternoon tea pick-me-up.

Something is up with this!! My husband recently started doing the same thing! We have a silver tea kettle and he heats water with the tea bags in it and we always have a pot of tea ready to drink. I love it!
Great idea and I love that it’s so simple! Love your blog. I liked your post on “Sleepovers Still”. I love it when we see our kids coming together and really doing something together, while having fun. Building relationships!
I’m no Martha Stewart either, this is a great idea. Kudos to your husband!
What a smart hubby! Great idea. Now I just need a carafe.
What a super idea. So simple yet so practical.
We have traveled overseas quite a lot in the past 2 years. My husband especially loved the tea in Rwanda, I think that’s what finally inspired him to start boiling the water. That and the cold weather in Phoenix right now!
